Employee Provident Fund (EPF) acts as a saving instrument for the employees. The employee and the employer both contribute an equal amount in the EPF account every month that employees can withdraw upon retirement or after switching jobs.

4 Ways on How to Check EPF Balance
#1. Using EPFO Portal
Before going to the portal check that your employer has activated your UAN (Universal Account Number).
UAN is a unique number given by EPFO to a person irrespective of the employer throughout their life.
Once your UAN number activated, follow these steps.
Step 1: Go to the EPFO portal. Click on the “ePassbook” option available on the homepage.
You also have an ‘Alternate’ way-.
- Click on the tab “Our Services” and then click the option “For Employees”.
Step 2 Now click on the option “Member Passbook” under “Services” which is at the left side of the page.
Step 3 A login page will appear. Fill your UAN and password to log in.
Step 4 After logging in, you will find all the member IDs linked to your UAN.
Step 5 Click on the member ID appears on the screen you want to check. Your EPF passbook will appear on the screen.
Eureka!! You got your EPF passbook.
#2. Sending an SMS
Important Note It is essential to integrate your KYC details with UAN i.e Aadhar or PAN or bank account details. Only then you can use this SMS service.
Once KYC details integrated with your UAN, you can do these steps.
Step 1 From your mobile number send an SMS to 7738299899
Step 2 Message format should be like EPFOHO UAN ENG
For example EPFOHO 123456789000ENG
Here you have to give your UAN number in place of UAN and your preferred language first three characters. For English it is ENG, For Hindi it is HIN, For Bengali it is BEN.
This SMS facility is available in the schedule languages English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil & Malayalam.
#3. Giving a Missed Call
Important Note You have to register your mobile number to your KYC details. After the integration of UAN to KYC, you can do the below steps to get EPF balance on your mobile by a missed call only.
Step 1 Give a missed call to the number 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
Step 2 You will receive a message about the current EPF balance.
#4. By Using UMANG App
EPFO provides various services through a centralized mobile application of the government called UMANG.
The steps are illustrated below.
Step 1 Download and install the application UMANG from Google Play Store or the App Store.
Step 2 Open the UMANG app on your mobile and select EPFO.
Step 3 Click on the “Employee Centric Services”
Step 4 Click on the option View Passbook to check your EPF balance.
Step 5 Enter your UAN and then click Send OTP to send an OTP to your mobile number.
Enter the OTP you receive and click Login.
Step 6 Select the Member ID for which you want to check the balance.
Step 7 You passbook will be displayed on the screen along with your EPF balance
Now no need to visit the EPFO office again and again and wasting time in a queue for updating the EPFO passbook.
